What is a matrimony profile ID, and where do you find it?
A profile ID is the one detail that points to exactly one person on a matrimony site. Here is what it looks like on Shaadi.com, Jeevansathi and BharatMatrimony, and how to use it.
Every profile on a matrimony site has an ID: a short code of letters and numbers that belongs to that one profile and nobody else. It is the most reliable way to find a particular person again, to tell customer support which profile you mean, and to reach someone outside the app. This guide explains what the IDs look like on Shaadi.com, Jeevansathi and BharatMatrimony, where to find them, and how to search by ID on each (checked on 21 October 2026).
The short answer
- A profile ID is assigned when you register and identifies one profile uniquely. BharatMatrimony calls it a Matrimony ID; Shaadi.com and Jeevansathi call it a profile ID.
- BharatMatrimony IDs are one letter followed by six or seven digits, such as A123456, according to its FAQ. You can also log in with it.
- Jeevansathi IDs mix letters and numbers. The search box on its website gives ZXZ12345 and YSW23456 as examples.
- Shaadi.com shows your ID under your photo on the Home tab of the app. It does not publish a fixed format.
- All three let you search by ID, which takes you straight to that profile.
- An ID beats a bio for finding someone, because many people write similar bios, but an ID belongs to exactly one profile.
What a matrimony profile ID is
When you create a profile, the platform gives it a permanent identifier. BharatMatrimony's FAQ says the Matrimony ID is generated when you register, identifies each person uniquely, and should be quoted in all correspondence with the company. It also says that if you are registering for yourself and a sibling, you need two separate profiles, because one ID means one person.
In practice the ID does three jobs. It is how you look someone up directly, without filters. It is how customer support finds your account: Jeevansathi's replies to app reviews ask users to share their profile ID, and BharatMatrimony's ask for the Matrimony ID. And it is a way to tell someone where to find you without giving out your name or phone number.
What the IDs look like on each platform
| Platform | What it is called | What it looks like | Search by ID? |
|---|---|---|---|
| BharatMatrimony (and its community sites) | Matrimony ID | One letter and six or seven digits, e.g. A123456 | Yes: "Search by ID" |
| Jeevansathi | Profile ID | Letters and numbers; the site's own examples are ZXZ12345 and YSW23456 | Yes: "Search by Profile ID" |
| Shaadi.com | Profile ID | Letters and numbers, shown on the profile; no published format | Yes: Profile ID search |
Where to find your own profile ID
Shaadi.com
Shaadi.com's help article on editing your profile says that in the app you open the Home tab (bottom left) and tap Edit Profile, which sits just below your profile photo and ID. So your ID is on your Home screen, under your photo.
BharatMatrimony
Your Matrimony ID is created the moment you register, and you can use it (or your email address) to log in. If you have forgotten it, BharatMatrimony's FAQ says you can retrieve your Matrimony ID and password from the site. The same applies on Matrimony.com's community sites, such as KeralaMatrimony and TamilMatrimony.
Jeevansathi
Jeevansathi does not publish a step-by-step guide to finding your own ID, but it is shown as part of your profile. If you cannot spot it, Jeevansathi's customer service (help@jeevansathi.com, or the toll-free number on its website) can confirm it, since support uses the profile ID to identify accounts.
Where to find someone else's ID
Another member's ID is usually shown on their profile page. It is the one detail on a profile that never changes when they edit their bio, photos or preferences, so it is worth noting down for anyone you might want to find again. If you are talking to someone and want to continue elsewhere, asking for their profile ID is a low-pressure first step: it reveals much less than a phone number does.
How to search by ID on each platform
- Shaadi.com. Its search FAQ lists Profile ID search alongside Basic, Advanced and Who is Online search, for locating a particular member. In the app, search sits under the magnifying glass on the Matches tab.
- BharatMatrimony. Use the Search by ID option, enter the member's Matrimony ID and choose View Profile. The FAQ notes that you can also shortlist or block a member by entering their ID the same way.
- Jeevansathi. The website's top bar has a Search by Profile ID box. Type the ID and search.
What you see after the search depends on that member's privacy settings and on your own plan. Finding a profile is free; contacting it is where most apps charge. Our guide to contacting someone without paying explains what a free account can do once you have found them, and the price guide shows what the paid plans cost.
Why an ID is better than a bio for finding the right person
A bio feels personal, but bios are surprisingly alike. Many are written by parents or siblings, many start from the same few phrases about values, family and career, and some are copied from examples. Two different people can easily end up with bios that read almost the same.
- An ID is exact. It belongs to one profile on one platform. There is no "close enough".
- A bio is fuzzy. Matching a bio means finding text that is similar, so a near-identical bio from someone else can look like a match.
- An ID survives edits. People rewrite their bios. Their ID stays the same.
- An ID reveals less. It contains no name, city or phone number.
Is it safe to share your profile ID?
Generally, yes: the ID only points to your profile on that platform, and what someone can see there is still governed by your privacy settings. BharatMatrimony, for example, lets you hide or password-protect photos and choose who sees your number. A few precautions still apply:
- Never share your password with it. On BharatMatrimony the ID is also a login name. Both BharatMatrimony and Jeevansathi say their staff will never ask for your password.
- Be wary of anyone who wants your ID and money. A request for payment of any kind is the clearest sign of a scam. See our checklist on spotting fake matrimony profiles.
- Share it where you choose. An ID is safe to give to someone you are already talking to, or to a service that does not publish it.
Using your profile ID on Lettheworld
Lettheworld is free, consent-first messaging for people who met on matrimony and dating apps, including Shaadi.com, Jeevansathi, BharatMatrimony, M4Marry and Bumble. It is not affiliated with any of them. Here is how the profile ID fits in:
- You register your profile ID from the app you use, and optionally your bio. Lettheworld stores the ID only as a keyed hash, not as the ID itself, and your bio is turned into a fingerprint in your browser; the text is never uploaded.
- Someone who saw you on that app types your profile ID and knocks.
- You see their first name, their profile picture if they added one (blurred until you tap it), which of your IDs or bios they found, and when.
- You accept and a chat opens at once, or ask up to 5 questions first, or ignore or block them. They are never told about an ignore or a block.
- Photos, full names and phone numbers are shared step by step, only when you both agree.
Searching alone tells nobody anything. Lettheworld is completely free right now, with no paid plans and no limits on messaging.
