What matrimony and dating apps really cost in India (2026)

Prices for every major matrimony and dating app in India, checked in October 2026: what each plan costs, what you get for it, and how to start a conversation without paying first.

By the Lettheworld team · Updated

If you have used a matrimony app in India, you know the moment: you find someone whose profile feels right, you tap to message them, and a payment screen appears. This guide puts real numbers on that moment. We collected the prices of every major matrimony and dating app in India on 20 October 2026, worked out what you actually get for the money, and explain the cheaper ways to do it.

The short answer

  • Matrimony apps charge to talk. On Shaadi.com, BharatMatrimony, Jeevansathi and M4Marry, a free member can create a profile, browse and send interests, but messaging someone or seeing their phone number needs a paid plan.
  • **A typical 3-month matrimony plan costs ₹5,200 to ₹5,900** in the app (GST included). That is roughly ₹1,700 to ₹2,000 a month.
  • **The average Indian paying for matrimony spends about ₹4,973 per purchase.** That is Matrimony.com's reported average transaction value for April to June 2026, when it sold 2.72 lakh paid subscriptions in one quarter.
  • You often pay per phone number, not per month. BharatMatrimony's Gold plan gives 40 contact views for 3 months, which works out to about ₹148 for each number you unlock.
  • Dating apps let you chat for free once you match. Tinder, Bumble, Hinge, TrulyMadly, Dil Mil, OkCupid and happn all allow free messaging between matches. Their paid plans (from about ₹99 a week) sell more likes, more visibility, and seeing who liked you.
  • Premium matchmaking is a different market. Elite Matrimony's relationship-manager packages start at ₹50,000 for 3 months and go up to ₹10,00,000.

Why matrimony apps charge you to talk

Matrimony platforms make most of their money from one thing: unlocking contact. Browsing is free because a large, free catalogue of profiles is what makes the paid plan worth buying. The paywall sits at exactly the point where two people want to speak.

The scale is large. Matrimony.com, which runs BharatMatrimony and its community sites such as KeralaMatrimony and TamilMatrimony, says it reaches more than 10 crore active seekers in India, and reported about 10 lakh paid subscriptions in FY25. Its investor presentation lists a tele-calling team whose job is to convert free profiles into paid ones. In other words, most people on these platforms are not paying, and much of the business is persuading them to.

Jeevansathi is owned by Info Edge, the company behind Naukri, and Shaadi.com by People Interactive. Neither publishes how many of its members pay.

Matrimony app prices in India

Prices below are the in-app purchase prices listed on the Apple App Store in India on 20 October 2026, which include 18% GST. Website prices, UPI offers and festival discounts are often different, sometimes lower, so treat these as the price you would pay today without hunting for a deal. Where the app's own website showed a price, we include it too.

Shaadi.com shows web prices only after you sign in. Its support pages say "Plus" plans give double the contact count and let free members see your contact details, and that personalised (advisor) plans have unlimited contacts.

Free members can: create a profile, browse, use basic filters and send interests. Paid members can: start and reply to messages, and see contact details, depending on the plan.

BharatMatrimony, KeralaMatrimony, TamilMatrimony and other community sites

Matrimony.com's community sites share one price list: the App Store shows identical plans and prices for BharatMatrimony, KeralaMatrimony and TamilMatrimony.

Contact views (mobile numbers you can see) are from BharatMatrimony's own payment page; prices are from the App Store. Its website lists slightly lower prices (Gold ₹5,500 for 3 months, ₹9,900 for 6) and an Assisted Service at ₹24,900 for 3 months, but that page looks out of date. All paid plans include unlimited personalised messages and chat.

The App Store does not show durations for these items, and Jeevansathi's website hides prices until you sign in. Its plans come in 3, 6 and 12 month versions. The website says Pro Lite and Pro include 20 contact views and unlimited voice and video calls.

Free members can: create a profile, get match alerts and send interests. Seeing phone numbers and email IDs, and sending personalised messages, are listed as premium features.

Profile Highlighter (add-on)14 days₹2,549–
M4Marry, from Malayala Manorama, prices Kerala profiles separately. It limits how many profiles free members can view per day, and contact views are metered.

Elite Matrimony (premium matchmaking)

Elite Aristocrat–₹6,00,000₹10,00,000
From elitematrimony.com. These are relationship-manager services rather than self-serve plans. The site does not say whether GST is included.

Betterhalf and SimplyMarry

Betterhalf lists premium plans between ₹499 (30 days) and ₹4,399 in the App Store, but its iOS app has not been updated since November 2024, so check it is still active before paying. SimplyMarry, the Times Group site, did not load securely when we checked and has no app in the Indian App Store.

What you actually pay for: contacts

Most matrimony plans are sold by duration, but the real limit is the number of contacts you can unlock. That changes how you should compare them.

Cost of each phone number you unlock (BharatMatrimony)
PlanPriceContactsPer contactIf you use half
Gold, 3 months₹5,90040₹148₹295
Diamond, 3 months₹7,90050₹158₹316
Platinum, 3 months₹9,90080₹124₹248
Platinum, 6 months₹14,900160₹93₹186
Till-U-Marry₹19,900300₹66₹133
Contacts are counted when you view a number, whether or not the person turns out to be interested.

Two things follow. First, bigger plans are cheaper per contact only if you use them: most people do not unlock 160 numbers in six months. Second, every contact you spend on someone who does not want to hear from you is money gone. That is the real cost of a paywall placed before consent.

Dating app prices in India

Dating apps work differently. On almost all of them, you can message a match for free. You pay for more likes, for being shown to more people, and for seeing who has already liked you. Prices also vary by age, gender and promotion: Tinder and Hinge openly use dynamic pricing, so the figures below are prices we saw, not prices everyone will see.

For people looking for marriage, this is the frustrating gap: the apps built for marriage charge to talk, and the apps that let you talk for free are built for dating.

How to pay less

  1. Compare the app price with the website price. In-app purchases go through Apple or Google; the same plan on the website, paid by UPI or card, is often priced differently. Check both before you pay.
  2. Buy the shortest plan that covers your contacts. Work out how many people you realistically want to contact. If it is 10, a 3-month plan with 40 contacts is enough.
  3. Wait for an offer, but not forever. Matrimony sites discount regularly, around festivals and at the end of a quarter. The discount is rarely worth weeks of not talking to someone you like.
  4. Turn off auto-renew straight away. Many plans renew at full price. You keep the plan until it ends either way.
  5. Read what "contacts" means on your plan. Some count every number you view, some count only accepted interests. Ask before you buy.
  6. Let the other person pay, or neither of you. If you both just want to talk, neither of you needs a subscription for that. See below.

A free way to start the conversation

Lettheworld exists because the paywall sits in the wrong place: before you know whether the other person is even interested. Here's how it works:

  1. You register your bio from the app you use. Your browser turns it into a fingerprint; the text never leaves your phone. On matrimony apps you can also add your profile ID.
  2. Someone who sees your profile on Shaadi.com, BharatMatrimony or any other app pastes your bio, or types your profile ID, into Lettheworld and knocks.
  3. You see their first name and which of your profiles they found. You accept and chat, ask them a few questions first, or ignore it. They aren't told if you ignore it.
  4. Photos, full names and phone numbers are shared only when you both choose to.

To let people know you're there, add one sentence to your bio that starts with "Let the world…", such as Let the world surprise me. It reads like a motto to everyone else, and contains no link, handle or number for an app to remove. Messaging on Lettheworld is free, always.

How we collected these prices

  • When: all prices were checked on 20 October 2026. They change often, with offers, festivals and your age; we will update this guide as they do.
  • Where: the Apple App Store in India (each app's in-app purchase list, which includes GST), the apps' own websites and help pages where they show prices without signing in, and Matrimony.com's filings with the National Stock Exchange for company figures.
  • What we did not use: coupon and cashback sites, whose figures disagree with each other and often show expired offers.
  • Limits: the App Store lists only an app's ten most popular purchases, often without a duration, and prices in the app can be higher than on the website. Where we could not confirm a figure we left it out rather than guess.

Is Jeevansathi cheaper than Shaadi.com?

Jeevansathi's entry plan, Pro Lite, starts lower (₹1,699 in the App Store), but its durations and contact limits differ. Compare the number of contacts you get, not just the price.

Which matrimony app has the cheapest plan?

Do dating apps like Tinder and Bumble charge to chat in India?

No. On Tinder, Bumble, Hinge and most other dating apps you can message your matches for free. Paid plans sell extra likes, visibility and seeing who liked you.

Prices in the Indian App Store and Google Play include GST. BharatMatrimony's website also says its rates include tax. Check the final price at checkout.

How can I talk to someone I found on a matrimony app without paying?

If they are on Lettheworld, paste their bio or type their profile ID and knock. They see your first name and can accept to start a free chat, or ask you a few questions first.
